Dear Mr. EPA Man, A Plea from another legal hard working contractor

I received a call today from a nice guy who had a similar mindset to a contractor I spoke with earlier this year. I thought I would republish my post Mr EPA Man and share the views of concerned contractors.

Contractor Uses EPA RRP Lead Practices on Bath Remodel

Yesterday on the linkedin NARI group contractor and remodeler John Clark implemented the lead safe practices according to the EPA RRP Certified Renovator course. He describes his challenges in excellent detail. This may be a glimpse of what is to come for remodelers. Please let us know if you have any similar stories out there. We will forward these stories to our contacts at the EPA to let them know the realities we will face complying with the rule. Here is John's excellent post;

Worthy cause 4 contractor compliance, EPA RRP,Video on lead poisoning

The current buzz created by the pending EPA RRP Lead Rule is causing the formation of camps; those who are for it, those who are against it, and those resigned to the fact that they have no choice but compliance.

Contractor Lead Gen Forum on Linkedin

This past week I posted a simple question on the Linkedin NARI group. It was, should contractor organizations and trade publications lead the charge to protect contractors from lead gen companies tactics. Little did I realize, that the thread hit a nerve in a big way with many contractors throughout the country. The responses blew me away and started a strong and passionate debate about the subject. This debate is likely to continue for weeks. The basic problem is how lead gen sites use questionable tactics to sell low quality leads to contractors. There are thousands of verifiable complaints about lead gen firms all over the web on forums.

I recently found a video on Youtube describing how a screened contractor took advantage of a homeowner on a deck job.

Persistance; Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich"

When confronted with challenges sometimes it is easier to give up than to stay focused on what we want. Some say this year has been the Perfect Storm for the American people. Yesterday's post talked about keeping and maintaining a great attitude by working on yourself and minimizing exposure to things like negative news and the media. Now let's talk about staying the course in spite of challenges facing the residential construction industry.

Do you get the feeling the home owner doesn't trust you?

You are a legitimate and honest contractor who follows the rules. You carry the right insurance, you are licensed, you pay your employees legally, you hire legal citizens, you pull permits, you stand behind your work, you pay your taxes and your bills, you are part of a contractor organization and you are active in the community. All evidence points to the fact that you are a quality residential construction company.
