Contractor Fall Protection Compliance Back On OSHA's Radar in Massachusetts, NH, RI and CT

OSHA has announced that they will again focus on fall protection outreach and contractor compliance in the residential construction sector. They will conduct 9 open meetings throughout Massachusetts leading up to the National Stand Down week in June.

OSHA Fall Protection Violation in Mass

Picture from new home in Northboro, Mass area. Framer with no Fall Protection 2 stories up on steep pitched roof. No harness, nets or guard rails. Numerous OSHA violations here. Scenes like this are keeping OSHA focused on the residential construction industry.

These OSHA Awareness Fall Protection meetings are a general overview of what employers and workers must do to protect themselves from fall hazards. (note: these sessions do not cover the OSHA requirement to train your workers) In 2010 and 2011 OSHA conducted several of these meetings hoping to get more contractors on board to follow the Standards. Although there are more contractors using fall protection the industry still has a long way to go. This could be a sign that OSHA will be looking for fall protection on Massachusetts residential job sites this spring.

Viewing the OSHA Data log contractor job site audits are up with fall safety the most common reason for the site visit.
