First a bad economy and now residential contractors have to contend with the media portrayal that contractors never show up when they said they would? Can you believe it?

Thanks USA Today!

What do you think about this cartoon and homeowners' perception of residential contractors?

This is a great thing to see. Now you know how to stand out from the competition, and you know what your prospect is thinking. Make sure that you communicate in your marketing that you always show up on time. You now have turned a negative into a positive - for you!

This comment has been overheard more than few times in the last year. It comes from bad experiences with contractors that in one form or another were not respectful in handling time, property or skill.

Some years ago, a well respected contractor stated what he believed what made him so successful: Show up on time, don't curse, arrive and leave with clean shoes, listen, keep promises and always say thank you.

When it came to recommendations, he was always mentioned first.

It's always the easy joke to go for the home improvement contractors. Isn't it Wall Street's time now?
