to Keep You Out Of Trouble”

Course Approval #: CS-7813
Credit Category: This is a two hour course with two credits in the Business Practices/Worker’s Compensation category. Complete the class in one two hour time slot with no break.

Class description: If you are not a construction lawyer you shouldn’t be creating your own contracts.  At the same time how would you know if you are working with the right lawyer to protect you and your business?   Come to this seminar to learn about several key things you should have and or clarify in the contracts your business uses with clients and sub-contractors.  Including just one of these valuable details in your contracts could save you thousands of dollars and prevent many sleepless nights.

Learning Objectives: By completing this class you will:

  • Learn what the difference is between a proposal and a contract and why you might want to separate them
  • Get a list of things that should be addressed in your sub-contractor agreements

“Meeting Code Requirements By Understanding Wood Framing”

Credit Category:This is a three hour course with three credits in the Building Codes Review category. Complete the class in two 90-minute time slots with a break in-between.

Class description: Meeting building code requirements during structural design and construction requires knowing and understanding the different wood framing methods used today as well as in the past. This class helps attendees understand typical residential wood framing methods and the differences between them. This class includes discussion and clarification of a variety building code considerations related to framing details.

Learning Objectives: By completing this class you will:

  • Learn differences between typical wood framing methods and considerations when remodeling or modifying existing framing.
  • Learn about framing related terms, connections and connectors, and several ventilation/insulation considerations when framing.
  • Learn how shrinkage, boring and notching can effect framing and framing methods

 

“Characteristics of Common Building Materials”

Number of CEU Credits: This course has been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards for 1 hour of Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License continuing education.

Credit Category: This is a one hour course with one credit in the Building Codes Review category. Complete the class in one one-hour time slot with no break.

Class description: Meeting building code requirements requires knowledge beyond studying the code book.  A Licensed Construction Supervisor also needs to understand building materials and their characteristics to make sure building designs and construction will meet both customer performance and building code requirements.

Learning Objectives: By completing this class you will:

  • Learn about typical lumber defects, how to spot them and whether the defects will compromise the required outcome.
  • Learn about the holding power of nails depending on the nails used and how they are used.
  • Learn about moisture content in wood, how moisture can affect wood members and when naturally durable or preservative-treated lumber should be used.
  • Learn about efflorescence, why it happens and how to control and or prevent it when building with masonry and concrete materials.
