Contractor New Image Construction Rebuilds Wales Family Home Destroyed By Fire In Time For Christmas.

On May 30, 2012 a child accidently ignited a fire that destroyed the family home in Wales, Massachusetts. Thankfully mom, dad and their three young children miraculously got out in time. But the home and everything they owned were destroyed. Mom was a stay at home parent and dad can no longer work due to a medical disability. With three children under 8 their whole world was turned upside down. They did not know where they were going to go or how they could rebuild their lives.

They called my client Jeff Sasseville from New Image Construction from Spencer, Ma. to price rebuilding their home. Unfortunately the insurance company low balled the estimate well below what it would cost to tear down and rebuild the house. The home was a total loss yet the insurance company did not offer to pay out the full policy amount.

Jeff called me in to do a detailed construction estimate and deal with the low ball insurance company offer. Thankfully, Jeff and I convinced the insurance company adjuster to increase the settlement amount by $40,000. Then another surprise from the insurance company: they said they would not pay any money for state mandated code upgrades. It turns out the policy excluded code upgrades, which are usually included in home insurance policies. For some reason the insurance company provided no ordinance or law coverage and did not explain it to the owner. The family was forced to use some of the funds received for their contents to make sure they could rebuild their home to code.

Jeff did a design for their new home and Construction began in mid September.

A contractor promise made, a promise kept twice.

They hired New Image Construction who made a promise that he will rebuild their home in time for Christmas. In addition the mother lost diamond a ring in the fire. Jeff promised he would find it in the wreckage. He did.

Yesterday the house was complete. But Jeff wasn't done bringing hope to this beautiful family. Jeff and his wife delivered a Christmas tree with all the trimmings. He went over to the temporary trailer and said to the family he wants to show them a surprise. Upon entering the living room dad, mom and the three children saw their new tree in their new home. Mom cried and hugged Jeff thanking him for keeping his promise. "It truly is Christmas".

Then the most amazing and beautiful thing happened today. A van from the Red Cross showed up with bags of presents donated by Honda Finance. Honda Finance asked the Red Cross if they could help a family in need this season. Jeff unloaded the presents and he said they were higher than the tree. This weekend a whole house of furniture will be delivered thanks to Jeff and the community for $6,000.00.

Coaching Jeff this year has been a great experience. I am proud of Jeff for the great things he did to help this family who lost so much rebuild their lives and be together in their new home for Christmas.
