OSHA will continue its' targeted focus and enforcement on residential contractors in 2017. Injuries, deaths, fines, little or no safety training and lack of OSHA required safety programs still plaque the residential construction industry. In response OSHA, has renewed ongoing Local Emphasis Programs designed to instruct OSHA inspectors to prioritize audits on residential job sites targeting builders, remodelers and trades. In addition, there are numerous other OSHA changes aimed at exposing prime contractor employers who do not provide safety training and programs to protect their employees and require that sub-contractors work safe on their job sites.

Posted by Mark Paskell on Sun, May 04, 2014 @ 09:41 AM
Last week I was asked to speak with OSHA at two fall protection awareness sessions in Framingham, Ma. and at National Lumber in Mansfield Mass. In Framingham contractors met an OSHA Compliance Safety and Health Officer from enforcement. In Mansfield the OSHA instructor was a Compliance Assistance Specialist from the education side. Although these sessions do not meet the OSHA training requirements for fall protection, they exposed contractors to the standards that employees and subcontractors must follow working on their job sites.

OSHA's Enforcement Map Shows Location, Company and Violations
Posted by Mark Paskell on Mon, Nov 26, 2012 @ 08:49 AM
OSHA's enforcement map identifies companies who have been visited by OSHA Compliance Officers. This shows the company, the location, the alleged violation and fine amounts. If you click on the pins it brings up a company. Then by clicking the highlighted link it shows the dates of the OSHA site visits and the standards that were violated. Many of the contractors I found had Fall Protection violations. The Stamford, Connecticut home improvement company below was cited for a ladder violation, eye and face protection and respirators. His initial fines were $7700.00 and they were settled for $5390.00. OSHA visited their site in August.

By coincidence there happens to be an OSHA office in Andover.

I learned today that Region 1 OSHA and Region 1 EPA (New England) have issued an EPA/OSHA Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the RRP Lead Rule and other safety matters. This MOU (link below) has been signed by Region 1 OSHA and EPA officers. Essentially the two agencies will work together to ensure that EPA RRP Law and OSHA safety standards are complied with on residential construction projects. Contractors may see both agencies riding together visiting job sites.
