MA Stretch Energy Code Spreads Massive Confusion 4 Building Inspectors

The 2023 MA DOER Stretch Energy Code confusing contractors and building inspector, became effective on 1/1/2023 in the state of Massachusetts. This far-reaching code was sent to the Secretary of State on 12/9/2022 for publication in the register and in 3 weeks became the law of the land for 300 MA cities and towns. I am receiving dozens of calls a week from remodelers, builders and contractors on this new regulation. Unlike past codes there is no concurrency or phase in period. There is usually a 6 month or one year phase in.

MA BBRS; follow new Stretch Code + 2021 IECC + MA Amendments

Today, MA BBRS sent out a notice regarding the new Stretch Code with instruction to also follow the 2021 IECC and MA Amendments. This applies in Massachusetts stretch code cities and towns. The new code was developed by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, not the BBRS.

MA DOER 2021 Stretch Code Effective 1/1/2023 without grace period

The MA DOER 2021 stretch code (2021 IECC with MA amendments) is now effective in all stretch energy code towns. It is imperative to know there is no grace period or phase in with the new code changes. All residential buildings three stories or less and remodeling in stretch code towns are significantly impacted.   This new regulation preempts the adoption of the Massachusetts 10th Edition Code (2021 IECC and MA Amendments) which is still under review by the BBRS.
