Mass DLS (Department of Labor Standards) has updated the state website adding 20 plus more contractors to the RRP violation enforcement list. The DLS is now labeling RRP violations as a category on the list in addition to lead and asbestos. You can view some of the most recent additions since 9/10/2012 below. It is now official that Mass DLS is actively enforcing and fining companies for RRP violations all over the state.
This week there are two opportunities to catch up on what is new with RRP in Massachusetts.
1. Department of Labor Standards To Meet With EMNARI on 3/6/2013 at NARI Dinner Meeting. http://www.emnari.org/
I set up a chat room meeting with DLS for contractors and remodelers for the purpose of learning what is new with RRP in Massachusetts. The topics will be what is new with the enforcement effort, current outreach to contractors and homeowners and the impact of recent EPA amendments in Massachusetts. Many contractors who are compliant with the RRP Law have voiced their concern with leveling the playing field. The recent DLS website release of contractors who have violated the RRP Law proves that the State of Mass is making an effort to enforce the regulation. Conversely the EPA is doing little or no enforcement in states under their jurisdiction.
2. Contractor and Remodeler Workshop on Mass vs EPA Differences on 3/5/2013 at National Lumber from 12-4 PM.
(A few seats are available for this 2 CEU BBRS Approved Course (1 hr lead and 1 hr safety). You will need to act fast if you want to join us.
On Tuesday, 3/5/2013 I will be leading a workshop on the Mass vs RRP Differences at National Lumber in Mansfield. We will be joined by John MacIsaac of ASAP Environmental who will be discussing the topic of testing or not testing for lead paint and related topics. You can register for just this workshop by selecting workshop #4.
Here is the most recent list of RRP Violators to the Mass DLS website. The largest fine is $27,000. Notice that there are towns from Western Mass on the list. Many contractors have complained to me that the RRP enforcement officers do not go to the far corners of the state.
