DOS RRP Brochure instructs homeowners to hire licensed contractors

The Mass Division of Occupational Safety (DOS) recently came out with a brochure to educate homeowners on the Mass RRP Lead Law. This brochure talks about 5 reasons why a homeowner needs to hire a lead safe contractor.

It instructs homeowners that "before beginning work your contractor must give you a pamphlet entitled Renovate Right."

Then it goes on to say " to make sure that your contractor is in trained in lead safety, ask to see his or her license. To find a licensed contractor near you and to learn more about the rule, visit www.mass.gov/dos.

RRP Brochure for Mass Homeowners

Homeowners who read the Mass Brochure and the Renovate Right Brochure will be well educated on what a contractor must do to be RRP compliant. 4 weeks ago when I was called by a contractor freaking out because a homeowner was requesting his license as a condition to be hired for a $60,000 kitchen job. She hired a RRP Licensed contractor instead.

Now may also be a good time to read the Renovate Right brochure which needs to be given to a homeowner before renovations begin on a pre 1978 property. The brochure is very discriptive on what one must do. Make sure you don't get caught with your pants down by not doing what is in the pamphlet.

If you have not applied for your firm certification yet you may want to consider doing so before the spring season starts. If you are not sure about the process give us a call and we will guide you.
