OCABR & EMNARI Educate Tornado Victims On Hiring Legal Contractors

Posted by Mark Paskell on Wed, Jul 06, 2011 @ 11:20 PM

A few weeks ago EMNARI was invited by Mass Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation to speak at a Springfiled, Ma. tornado press conference on hiring contractors. On behalf of EMNARI and legitamate contractors I joined OCABR Undersecratary Barbara Anthony on the steps of Springfield City Hall. As Chairman of Government Affairs for Eastern Mass NARI I spoke about hiring legal, licensed and registered contractors. I also shared some helpful hints to provide tools that consumers could use when considering their contractor. There were 6 or more media outlets recording the press conference. The video of the conference is below.

Illegal Contractors Decend on Ma Tornado Victims

Right after the storm tornado victims were receiving solicitations from a slew of unscrupulous contractors who descended on the area to capitalize on the storm damage. Many of the contractors were unlicensed in Massachusetts and some were from out of state.

OCBAR recently approached EMNARI to assist them with educating Massachusetts contractors about the requirements in the Mass Home Improvement Law. In addition they asked us if we could assist them with consumer outreach efforts. EMNARI accepted the request and is now participating in the development of new programs to educate contractors on following the law. We are developing programs designed to encourage homeowners to only hire registered and licensed contractors when considering remodeling or home improvements projects.
