On 9/29/2011 The Contractor Coaching Partnership and Safety Trainers held a seminar where contractors met with an OSHA Compliance Specialist from Boston. Our host was Brockway Smith of Andover, Ma.

Over 40 contractors had the opportunity to meet OSHA in person and ask questions. Our OSHA guest did a great job handling many poignant questions about enforcement, fines, training, fall protection, lead in construction, respiratory, safety manuals, documentation and more.

One of the most important topics was why is OSHA targeting the residential construction industry. OSHA explained that our industry is responsible for many injuries and deaths and that for the next 3-5 years residential contractors should expect to see OSHA stopping by their jobs. In fact the OSHA guest said enforcement officers are instructed to stop by residential jobs while on route to others.

OSHA said the majority of violations are fall protection violations, failure to train workers, failure to document fall protection training, electrocution and slips and falls. Eight of the ten most cited violations are related to fall protection in the construction industry.

We will be holding more OSHA Awareness Seminars in the coming months.
