Contractor client takes care of a neighbor using design build process

Posted by Mark Paskell on Mon, Aug 12, 2013 @ 10:11 PM

Early this year my neighbor asked me if I could help him with his second story family room addition project. He actually asked me to build it but I assured him I was not a contractor but the contractor business coach who coaches and mentors remodelers and trades.

So we discussed the project, the needs, the wants and budget range.

Here are before and progress pictures one week into the job.

It became apparent that this would be a great referral for one of my clients who went through the design build training program. I often get leads, qualify them and give them to my clients. It is a great way to give back.

It turns out there were no plans so I explained the design build process to the neighbor husband and wife team and suggested they hire a design build contractor. They loved the concept and said that sounds like the best way to go. Then they asked me to refer a local contractor.

I put then in touch with one of my clients John Canty who owns Canty Brothers Construction. John is a great contractor and also happens to live in the same town. It seemed like a logical fit for my neighbor.  I felt comfortable referring John. He mastered our design build training process very quickly, is local and is very successful utilizing the process.

Since he completed our design build coaching program John told me his business grew substantially after he implemented the process.

John wrote:

"Under Mark's guidance I fully implemented his system and my business volume TRIPLED in one year. (2011 to 2012) I would highly recommend Mark and The Contractor Coaching Partnership, Inc."

I spoke with my neighbor and he said he and his wife were thrilled with the process John used to show them exactly what they were buying before any work was started. John designed the project incorporating all agreed needs and wants within the design agreement budget. The design blended in with the house and set them at ease. They hired Canty Brothers Construction and work began.

According to my happy neighbor, John and his men are doing an outstanding job. (Stay tuned for finish pictures).

John has implemented his coaching lessons and programs very well. It is a pleasure to know that John took what he learned, put it to use and is succeeding in a challenging economy.

I see my neighbor several times a week and have no worries that he will be thrilled with the outcome of his project and the service from Canty Brothers Construction.
