In our recent Remodeler Roundtable Forum for contractors we introduced a questionnaire for our 12 members to get them thinking about the subject of running a design build company. It was interesting to hear some of the comments during the session.  

When we started our contractor coaching business in 2008 our plan included hosting roundtables for contractors. Our goal was to provide a forum where residential contractors could learn from each others experiences and improve their companies.

On Wednesday 10.21.09, Eastern Mass NARI launched its first contractor satellite meeting at Simple Home in Westborough Mass.

On 10.21.09 The Contractor Coaching Partnership and GMT Home Designs, Inc will hold a roundtable forum for residential remodelers and contractors. We are currently happy to report 11 of the 12 slots are filled. If you know a contractor who would like to join us there is one more day. The program is limited to twelve.

Eastern Mass NARI is growing. The membership team has announced that they will hold a special NARI event at the offices of Mark and Eileen Komenecky, owners of Simple Home in Westborough, Mass.

The Contractor Coaching Partnership is teaming up with GMT Home Designs, Inc. to hold a Remodeler Roundtable Forum starting 10/21/09 in Ashland, Mass.

Over the past 3 months I have been reading the Angie's list monthly magazine and was amazed at all the contractor advertisements that were in violation of the Mass Home Improvement Law. The Mass Home Improvement Law explicitly states that contractors must publish their registration number in all advertising. One would expect that Angie's list would not allow contractors who violate the law to advertise in their publication. I was thinking that it was time to expose this matter due to the dangers posed to homeowners who hire what they think is a good company based on the Angie's List.

As the summer comes to a close the winds of change are taking the residential construction industry by storm. The law of evolution is culling the dead wood and contractors who are resistant to change are being replaced by the Next Level Contractor. Contractors who embrace and adapt to the changes will survive and those who do not will perish. These new contractors are investing in business coaching, education, sales training, marketing and best practices while things are slow. They know that when things rebound this will insure their prospects of success.

Now that the recession is a year old, most business owners  realize that former methods of doing business are producing poor results in this economy. The old ways of marketing, selling and running a business are giving way to new processes that require learning new business concepts. The new business training for today's contractors can help bridge the gap from old to new provided it includes implementation of the training into the business. In Webster's the definition of implementation is: "provide the power and authority necessary to accomplish or put into effect". Education and training without implementation is a complete waste of time and money. Failure to implement will lead to the same poor results. We all remember the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

The rush is on to provide lead paint training and coaching for remodelers, contractors and the trades! The list of EPA certified trainers continues to grow. Some providers will travel to your location.
