A few weeks ago EMNARI was invited by Mass Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation to speak at a Springfiled, Ma. tornado press conference on hiring contractors. On behalf of EMNARI and legitamate contractors I joined OCABR Undersecratary Barbara Anthony on the steps of Springfield City Hall. As Chairman of Government Affairs for Eastern Mass NARI I spoke about hiring legal, licensed and registered contractors. I also shared some helpful hints to provide tools that consumers could use when considering their contractor. There were 6 or more media outlets recording the press conference. Just when we thought things would slow down for the beginning of summer OSHA decided to throw a monkey wrench into the gears. We hear from contractors daily that OSHA inspectors are combing neighborhoods looking for violators to fine. They are asking to see safety manuals, adressing fall protection violations and other hazards. Contractors who have no paperwork usually have a bad day.

The EPA will make a decision on July 15th on 3rd party clearance. Take a look at the OMB report and the estimated costs to the industry.

A Maine roofing contractor has just fallen on real hard times due to violations of the OSHA Fall Protection Standard. After repeated violations he is now facing a potential of $243,000 in fines.
