Before you hire a lead carpenter learn and implement the system

Posted by Mark Paskell on Thu, Oct 01, 2015 @ 09:37 PM

Recently a remodeler called me frustrated that he lost the opportunity to hire a great lead carpenter to help him manage his heavy backlog of work. The qualified candidate asked him how he runs his jobs. Most of the questions were based on the lead carpenter production system. The remodeler explained how he runs his jobs on a day to day basis. However, it became apparent that what the candidate was seeking ( a lead carpenter production system) was not the standard operating protocol in the remodeler's business. This lead provided proof of training and experience that checked out.

We are coming over the bridge to Cape Cod; MA CSL CEU Training

Posted by Mark Paskell on Sat, Sep 26, 2015 @ 06:40 PM

Contractors on Cape Cod keep asking me when are we going to come over the bridge with our Mass continuing education for contractors for the construction supervisor renewal. These CSL's tell me they do not want to travel over the bridge to the mainland even if it is right over the bridge.  With that said Shawn McCadden (Remodel My Business) and I (The Contractor Coaching Partnership) have scheduled three of our most popular trainings in Hyannis, Ma. in October.

We have booked a convenient location for all training at the Holiday Inn Cape Cod just off route 6.

Contractor avoids OSHA Fall Protection Fines by working on the weekend

Posted by Mark Paskell on Sun, Jul 12, 2015 @ 12:27 PM

Today, (7/11/2015) a fall protection training student sent me some video and pictures of a roofing crew working illegally in West Boylston, Mass. He said he is sick and tired of seeing roofing crews work without harnesses and safety protection when he makes his workers wear and use safety gear. He invested in the right equipment and fall protection training to protect his men. He said this is the right thing to do but adds cost to his projects. It is unfair that there is no level playing field out there.

Job management; pre-construction meetings & the lead carpenter system

Posted by Mark Paskell on Mon, Jul 06, 2015 @ 05:30 AM

The lead carpenter system utilizes pre-construction meetings when turning over a sold project to production to insure that a project gets off on the right foot. Construction business owners who utilize this system effectively tend to have happier clients and smoother flowing jobs.

Have you ever experienced the following scenario....

You work your butt off to design, scope develop, select products, price and then sell a remodeling, kitchen, bath or addition project with your homeowner client. Then over the course of the next one to three months you get the permit, order the products and line up the crew and subs. The day comes when you start the demo and proceed into framing and rough. Then on cue the homeowner starts a daily barrage of emails, texts and phone calls after hours questioning every little and big item underway. You find yourself on the job site everyday to address their concerns and wonder if they remember what they approved in the contract. They begin to grill you as if they do not trust that you will perform per the contract.
